To enhance logistics and sports science support for Taiwan’s 2024 Paris Olympics participants, through the collaboration of Sports Administration (SA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Taipei Representative Office in France, Representative Wu Chih-chung, who will return to serve as Taiwan's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs after the games, officially signed an agreement for the free rental of the Palais des sports Marcel-Cerdan, a versatile indoor sports arena, with Levallois Mayor Agnès POTTIER-DUMAS on May 23, 2024. This facility, equipped for badminton, judo, boxing, and weight training, will be used by the Taiwanese team and logistics support staff during the 2024 Paris Olympics, enhancing logistical efficiency.
The SA has initiated various logistics support planning to prepare for the Olympic Games. Collaborating with the National Sports Training Center (NSTC) and Taiwan Institute of Sports Science (TISS), the SA has drawn insights on logistics planning and sports science support from the related experience of advanced countries like Japan. Since 2023, efforts have been underway to locate a suitable venue. In January 2024, SA Director-General Cheng Shih-Chung led a delegation to Paris for a site inspection at the Levallois’s Palais des sports Marcel-Cerdan, facilitated by the Taipei Representative Office in France. After evaluating its suitability for sports science support, including fitness training and weight training, intelligence collection, sports psychology and physiology negotiations for rental began to enhance support during the games.
The lease signing was successfully concluded with the assistance of MOFA and the Taipei Representative Office in France, and with Mayor Agnes POTTIER-DUMAS's full support. The city council unanimously approved free rental of the sports center on March 27 this year, leading to today's agreement signing by representative Wu Chih-chung along with Mayor Agnes POTTIER-DUMAS. Deputy Mayor Eva Haddad, Councilor Marley Makindu-Tangu, Aubin Leduc City Councilor, Wang Wen-wei, Director of the Representative's Office, and Lu Mei-chen, chief of the Education Section were also present. Representative Wu extended gratitude to the city government and the city council for their unwavering support.
The SA extends special gratitude to the MOFA and the Taipei Representative Office in France for their invaluable assistance in successfully securing the rental of the sports center from the city government. This collaboration underscores the commitment to bolstering logistical support services for the 2024 Paris Olympics and prioritizing the needs of our athletes. Additionally, we thank Johnson Health Tech for their cooperation in providing training equipment promptly during the rental period. Currently, the NSTC and TISS are coordinating the planning and deployment of pre-game training and related support services, aiming to help Taiwan's athletes perform at their best and achieve outstanding results on the sports field.
