To encourage the private sector to sponsor sports and to honor organizations, groups, and individuals, the Sports Administration (SA) has organized the Sports Activist Awards since 2009. The aim is to promote nation participation in sports. The 2025 Sports Activist Awards are now open for recommendation, which will be accepted until August 31. All sectors are encouraged to participate enthusiastically. The Ministry of Sports will also officially be established on September 9, 2025. Starting this year, the Ministry will oversee the presentation of the awards in the future.
The awards are divided into three main categories: Sponsorship, Promotion, and Special. The Sponsorship and Promotion categories are further divided into Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards, along with a Long-term Sponsorship Award. Evaluation is based on the amount sponsored or the number of years of promotion efforts. The Special category commends those with significant contributions or outstanding achievements.
The SA stated that the development of national sports not only relies on government resources and promotion but also requires investment of time and funds from private enterprises, organizations, and individuals. Participation in the Sports Activist Awards has grown year by year. From 2009 to 2024, a total of 1,006 awards were presented, with cumulative sponsorship exceeding NT$40 billion. In 2024 alone, 126 recommendations were received, a new record. This year, it is hoped even more enterprises will join in. Whether organizing or sponsoring sporting events, supporting sports organizations or athletes, or engaging in athlete training and community sports promotion, all are contributions the Sports Activist Awards aim to thank.
In 2024, seven enterprises that have continuously supported the development of Taiwanese athletes simultaneously received three awards: the Gold Sponsorship Award, the Long-term Sponsorship Award, and the Gold Promotion Award. These enterprises were: Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd.,Taiwan Power Company, Taiwan Cooperative Bank, Cathay Life Insurance Co., Ltd. First Commercial Bank Co., Ltd., Fubon Financial Holdings Co., Ltd., and Land Bank of Taiwan.
Also, 14 well-known companies joined the ranks of sports activists for the first time, including Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (Foxconn), Sunny Bank, Sampo Corporation, Taishin Life Insurance Co., Ltd., Taishin Securities, and Universal Cement Corporation, among others. This shows the emergence of new activists each year, ensuring the continuation of strong private sector sports support in Taiwan.
