To enhance the international competitiveness of sports talents, connect with the competitive sports reserve talents of the national team and help students develop multiple advantageous abilities, registration for the screening and examination for educational advancement counseling for outstanding student athletes entering senior high schools or institutions of higher education for the 2024 academic year will be open from April 12 to May 2, 2024.
The screening and examination for educational advancement counseling for outstanding student athletes entering senior high schools or institutions of higher education is determined by their sports competition achievements. “Screening” considers international sports competition achievements, providing additional enrollment quotas for the year. The “examination” focuses on achievements in national sports competitions and requires subject exams. Junior high school applicants submit scores from the "Comprehensive Assessment Program for Junior High School Students", while senior high school applicants take exams in Chinese, English, and Math. Some subjects may also require a technical exam, included in the current year's enrollment quota.
In the 2024 academic year, a total of 2,546 places are available for senior high school screening and examination, while 126 places are allocated for junior high school. Senior high school subjects cover 87 sports and disciplines; basketball has the largest quota, followed by badminton and volleyball. Junior high school subjects include 25 sports and disciplines; martial arts has the largest quota, followed by swimming and hockey.
Also, in consideration of potential international competitions occurring after the initial registration period, a second screening opportunity will be provided. Those who meet the educational advancement counseling screening qualifications between May 3 and August 31 can apply for screening from August 21 to September 5. The second list of successful candidates will be announced on September 9th.
The SA emphasized that junior high school and senior high school students with outstanding sports performance can choose the most suitable further education path based on their personal interests, expertise and career plans, in accordance with the “MOE Regulations for Assisting Outstanding Student Athletes to Enter Secondary Schools or Institutions of Higher Education”
