2016 Academic Year High School Baseball Taiwan (HBT) Wooden Bat Division Tournament Final 12 Teams Square Off at Chiayi Stadium for Championship
When all the dust had settled Taoyuan City's Ping Jen Senior High School came away winning the 2016 academic year High School Baseball (HBT) Wooden Bat Division Tournament championship, its first ever in school history.
Starting in 2004, the Wooden Bat Division evolved into its own High School Baseball (HBT) tournament competition, and since then only 6 schools have won the title. With the exception of Kao-Yuan Vocational High School of Technology & Commerce (2010 and 2011) and New Taipei City's Ku-Pao Home Economics & Commercial High School (2012 and 2013) winning titles in consecutive years, the championship has changed hands every year. This goes to show the intense level of competition and that it really is in a league of its own.
This year each team came prepared and ready to compete. At last year's 4th Chinatrust Black Panther Pennant High School Baseball Tournament Taoyuan City's Ping Jen Senior High School won it's second title in four tries, and this year's team had many of those same players returning from that championship team. On the other side, there was New Taipei City's Ku-Pao Home Economics & Commercial High School looking to regain the glory of yesteryears.
Additionally, Chiayi City, the hosts of this year's competition, continued carrying on the "never give up" spirit of KANO by implementing Japan's Koshien-style tournament model for our nation's top level high school baseball championship.

105學年度HBT高中棒球木棒組聯賽 最後12強嘉義棒球場爭冠
桃園市平鎮高中在105學年度高中棒球聯賽，拿下隊史首座高中木棒組聯賽冠軍。
105學年度高中棒球木棒組聯賽從93學年開始將「木棒組」獨立後，僅有6所學校拿過冠軍，其中除99至100學年度高雄市高苑工商及101至102學年度新北市穀保家商曾經連霸外，幾乎每年的冠軍寶座都易位，由此可見本賽事的競爭激烈，強度也非一般賽事可比擬。
今年各支球隊都有備而來，桃園市平鎮高中甫在去年中信盃黑豹旗拿下4屆以來的第2座冠軍，隊上有許多球員都是冠軍班底；新北市穀保家商則是希望能重返榮耀。
此外，今年承辦比賽的嘉義市為延續KANO「永不放棄」精神，以回歸當年日本甲子園的比賽方式，推出全國高中棒球菁英賽。

Women's Sports Participation Advocacy White Paper and 2017 "Women Get Moving!" Media Launch
As a means of encouraging more women to cultivate regular exercise habits that promote health and vitality, the Sports Administration announced the “Women's Sports Participation Advocacy White Paper”. And propelled by the spirit of the "Women Get Moving, Exercise Easy Go!" ‒ Invigorating Women's Sports Participation Action Plan, we have designed a three-pillared promotional plan that includes a series of activities, sports and exercise lectures, and on-site instruction. The exciting line-up of activities are as follows: exercise demonstrations for new residents, grateful for mother's dance in May, summer vacation parent-children extravaganza, 99 Sports Day increasing exercise capacity workshops, getting Taiwan moving in glorious October, and a results ceremony. For our on-site instruction, we will coordinate with 10 city and county governments nationwide to implement the iSport Taiwan ‒ Women's Sport Promotion Competitive Plan. Through the integration of resources we can work together to utilize the power of connectivity to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our promotion and publicity. These efforts will heighten public awareness and support of women's participation in sports to actualize the ultimate goal of Sport for All Easy Go!

推廣女性參與體育運動白皮書暨 2017 Women動起來啟動記者會
為讓更多女性朋友養成規律運動習慣，增進健康與活力，教育部體育署特別在婦女節發布「推廣女性參與體育運動白皮書」外，另將以「Women動起來，運動Easy Go！ - 活力女性運動參與推廣」為理念，規劃行動方案，後續將透過「系列活動」、「運動講座」和「輔導訪視」三大主軸，辦理新住民運動展演、感恩五月舞動人生、暑假親子躍動大會、99體育日運動增能講座、光輝十月樂動臺灣、成果分享等系列活動，來形塑風潮。另外也將輔導訪視辦理運動i台灣－女性運動推廣競爭型計畫之10個縣市政府，整合各項資源，共同推廣宣導，發揮串連效益，提升國人支持女性參與運動之意識，達到全民運動Easy Go的終極目標！

Minister of Education Attends 2017 World Baseball Classic Exhibition Games Cheering for Chinese Taipei Victory!
Prior to departing for the 2017 World Baseball Classic, on February 19th the Chinese Taipei national team went up against Universiade Taipei (the team representing Taiwan in the upcoming Taipei Summer Universiade) at the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium. Then, on February 20th and 21st our teams played exhibition games against the Cuba national team. Minister of Education Pan, Wen-chung attended these games to cheer the teams on and express the government's support and encouragement for all the players and staff of the baseball teams representing our nation in international competition.

Universiade Upgrades Nation's Athletic Fields
10 Football Venues Receive FIFA Certification
As we prepare for the upcoming 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade, the Sports Administration and the Taipei City Government inspected venues in the northern region. In compliance with the International University Sports Association (FISU) Summer Universiade venue specification requirements, we have selected 4 football field venues: Fu Jen Catholic University, New Taipei City Xinzhuang Athletic Field, Chang Geng University, and Hsinchu County Second Stadium, and 6 practice fields: Taipei City's Yingfeng Riverside Park, University of Taipei (Tianmu Campus), New Taipei City Chungho District Jinhe Sport Park, National Taiwan Sport University, Ming Chuan University (Taoyuan Campus), and National Taiwan University (Zhubei Campus). On top of providing venues for the upcoming Universiade, once this international sporting event concludes these 10 football fields will provide the foundations for the development of football in Taiwan's northern region and boost the overall development of football in our nation.
The Taipei Summer Universiade football venues are equipped with Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) certified artificial turf pitches and all Summer Universiade venues have received FIFA Quality Pro certification. Artificial turf is always ready to play allowing water to quickly drain, a mud-free pitch after rains, durability and long-lasting resilience, and it's more maintenance-friendly and cost efficient than natural turf. Considering the wet climate of Taiwan's northern region, artificial turf offers the best solution for ensuring a consistently quality pitch, plus FIFA Quality Pro certified venues are automatically eligible to hold FIFA first-class international football competitions. In the future, our nation's footballers will be able to train and compete at World Cup quality venues, while football fans and enthusiasts will get the opportunity to experience the joy of booting the ball around on a world-class pitch that meets the highest international specifications.

世大運為我國運動場館加值，10座足球場取得FIFA認證
因應2017臺北世大運舉辦，教育部體育署及臺北市政府共同勘察北部地區場地，依據國際大學運動總會（FISU）夏季世大運場館需求，擇定輔仁大學、新北市新莊田徑場、長庚大學、新竹縣第二運動場設置4座足球競賽場地，及臺北市迎風河濱公園、臺北市立大學天母校區、新北市中和區錦和運動公園、國立體育大學、銘傳大學桃園校區及國立臺灣大學竹北分部設置6座足球練習場地，10座足球場未來除提供世大運足球賽事使用外，賽會結束將成為我國北部地區足球發展的基地，推動我國足球運動發展。
臺北世大運足球場地全數採用國際足球總會（FIFA）認證的人工草皮，並已依夏季世大運場館需求全數取得FIFA Quality Pro認證。人工草皮具有排水快速、具彈性及耐磨損等特性，不會有雨後滿地泥濘之情形，維護保養工作相較天然草皮簡易且養護成本較低，在臺灣多雨的天候條件下，容易保持場地之品質，而且通過FIFA Quality Pro認證之場地，可舉辦FIFA國際足球一級賽事。未來我國足球選手，將可在媲美世界盃等級的場地上競技及訓練，而愛好足球運動的朋友，也有機會在國際最高規格的足球場地，享受踢球的樂趣。

2017 Exciting International Sporting Events in Taiwan!
On February 14th, the Sports Administration held the “2017 Exciting International Sporting Events in Taiwan!” media launch, announcing news about the full lineup of thrilling international sporting events scheduled for this year. Representatives from sports organizations such as the 2017 Taipei Universiade Organizing Committee (TUOC), Republic of China Sports Federation (ROCSF), Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation (CTUSF), various sports associations, and representatives from the business community joined in the festivities. Looking forward to high spectator turnout at these venues with everyone coming out to support our nation's athletes and cheer for all the talented competitors from abroad, continue carrying on the tradition of hosting major international sporting events here in Taiwan.
Deputy Director General Wang Shui-wen said that in 2016 the Sports Administration, Ministry of Education provided guidance and assistance for holding more than 100 international sporting events. Backed by the investment and support of city and county governments, national sports associations, and corporate partnerships, public enthusiasm for sports spectatorship continues growing. In 2017, Taiwan will be turning over a new page for holding major international sporting events. In addition to a diverse lineup of exciting single-sport international sporting events throughout the year, from August 19th to 30th Taiwan will host the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade. This will be the highest level and largest scale international multi-sport competitive event that Taiwan has ever hosted with over 10,000 athletes from 120 countries worldwide coming to compete in Taiwan.
There were many special guests on hand at the media launch such as the CEO of TUOC Su Li-chiung, women's weightlifter Kuo Hsing-chun, table tennis player Cheng I-Ching, and the best spokesperson of them all, the Taipei Universiade mascot "Bravo." Hope Taiwan's enthusiastic sports fans would come together to experience the thrill and allure of world-class sports competition and applaud for all of the athletes gathering to compete here in Taiwan. In addition, the capacity to raise funds and concentrate social resources has always been an indispensable element of hosting international sporting events. Now small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are actively engaged, offering enthusiastic support for international sporting events. Let’s look forward to more SMEs joining the ranks in the future, investing resources for hosting international sporting events and propelling a new wave of sports passion!

2017精彩國際賽事在臺灣全面啟動
教育部體育署於2月14日舉辦「2017精彩賽事在臺灣啟動記者會」，預告2017年我國舉辦國際賽事資訊，為全年精彩豐富的賽事揭開序幕。活動邀請2017臺北世大運執委會、中華體總、大專體總、單項協會等體育運動團體，及企業代表共襄盛舉，期盼國人踴躍進場觀賽，以行動支持我國選手，並為遠道的各國好手加油打氣，延續國際賽事在臺熱潮。
體育署王副署長表示，2016年教育部體育署輔導辦理逾百場國際賽事，在各縣市政府、全國性單項運動協會及企業夥伴的投入與支持下，國人觀賽風氣蓬勃。2017年則是臺灣舉辦國際賽事的新頁，不僅除各項精彩多元的單項運動國際賽事在全臺各地輪番登場外，在8月19日至30日間舉辦「2017臺北世界大學運動會」，更是我國舉辦層級最高、規模最大的綜合性國際賽會，屆時將有來自全球120國10,000以上選手及隊職員來臺參與盛會。
記者會特別邀請「2017臺北世界大學運動會」蘇麗瓊執行長、舉重女將郭婞淳、桌球好手鄭怡靜及最佳代言人「熊讚」，為即將到來的世大運宣傳，希望熱愛運動關注賽事的好朋友們，一起進場感受比賽的魅力，並為齊聚臺灣的各國選手喝采。此外，社會資源募集向來是國際賽事不可或缺的一環，中小企業代表也在活動中展現對國際賽事的熱情與支持，期盼將來有更多中小企業為我國舉辦的賽事挹注資源，帶動新一波運動熱潮！
