Once President Tsai Ing-wen heard the news, she immediately congratulated Hsu Shu-ching for the spectacular performance.

Taiwan Sports Lottery Offers Olympic Betting, Support Olympic Athletes Capture Gold
In efforts to encourage greater public interest and support for the Rio Olympics national delegation, the Sports Administration, Ministry of Education made special arrangements for the Taiwan Sports Lottery (TSL) to open up betting on the Games of the XXXI Olympiad. During Olympic competition, TSL offered betting on 15 popular Olympic events, 24-hour non-stop service, and exemption of a 78% ceiling rate on prize money won from Olympic bets.
The 15 events opened up for betting focused on those sports the Chinese Taipei Olympic delegation participated in, including tennis, table tennis, badminton, weightlifting, taekwondo, archery, athletics, cycling, golf, boxing, equestrian and shooting, as well as basketball, football, and "special events." Also, for featured matchups in tennis, basketball, and football, both single game and live betting were offered. This was the first time betting was offered on all table tennis singles matches starting from the quarterfinals, while on other popular events you could pick the winner. For "special events", betting options were available to predict the total number of medals and how many gold medals Taiwan's national delegation would win.
The Sports Administration encouraged the public to get behind Taiwan's elite athletes by placing your bets at TSL as we all "play TSL, assist sports, and support the Olympics" together. Portions of the revenues earned from TSL go towards investment in sports resources, help to open up a brighter future for our nation's sports environment.

運彩投注開奧運，全民挺奧運拿金牌
為讓民眾更加關注比賽，並為我國選手集氣加油，教育部體育署特別規劃將第31屆奧林匹克運動會納入運動彩券投注標的，並於奧運期間運彩提供15項奧運熱門投注項目作為投注標的、24小時服務不打烊以及所有奧運投注項目免除78%獎金支出率上限。
15項投注項目鎖定有我國中華代表隊參賽的項目為投注重點，包含網球、桌球、羽球、舉重、跆拳道、射箭、田徑、自由車、高爾夫、拳擊、馬術及射擊等，同時還有籃球、足球及特別項目，其中網球、籃球及足球將精選賽事提供單場及場中投注，桌球則是首度開放單打8強所有賽事投注，其他熱門賽事提供冠軍預測，至於特別項目則可預測中華代表隊本次獎牌數及金牌數。
體育署邀請民眾在里約奧運期間，一起為中華健兒壯聲勢，踴躍投注運動彩券，一起「玩運彩，助體育，挺奧運」，也替臺灣體壇添資源，讓我國體育環境有更好的前景。

Taiwan's Junior League National Team Won the 2016 Junior League Baseball World Series Champions
On August 22 during the wee hours before dawn Taipei time, in Taylor, Michigan (USA) the Chinese Taipei national team defeated the USA West region team from Hawaii by a score of 9:1. Our team won all of their games in this tournament on the path to becoming champions and received a message of congratulations from President Tsai Ing-wen immediately after the game.
President Tsai Ing-wen was proud of the talent and team spirit that Taiwan's Junior League Baseball national team showed throughout the series. She also encouraged these young players to continue working hard and honing their skills as they strive for baseball's top level and representing our national teams at higher levels of international competition.
Chinese Taipei was represented by Taoyuan City's Shing-Ming Junior High School baseball team, which won the Hsieh Guo-cheng Cup National Little League Tournament to earn qualification for representing our nation in Little League Baseball (LLB) tournament competition. The team moved on to defeat rivals from China at the LLB Junior League Baseball Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament held in Pingtung, Taiwan. Finally, in the Junior League Baseball World Series championship game, they handily defeated a team from Hawaii representing the USA West region. This year's team successfully defended our reign in this tournament making it the fourth straight year our nation has been crowned champions. It also marked our fifth championship since we began participating in this tournament once again in 2010, an amazing accomplishment. In recent years, Taoyuan City fielded superb teams at all three Little League Baseball (LLB) levels, putting forth exceptional performances at both domestic and international competition. Since the Sports Administration began implementing the Baseball Reinvigoration Plan and Baseball Strengthening Program in 2010, we have been investing in resources for the past 7 years, assisting the Taoyuan City Government organize baseball training and participation in competitions at the three LLB levels. The school baseball teams under their jurisdiction at the three LLB levels have all gone on to become national champions and Taoyuan's adult teams are also perennial powerhouses. Additionally, the Lamigo Monkeys, Taoyuan's Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) team, has been cooperating with the Taoyuan City Government to embrace the concepts of localism and territoriality. These efforts have established a comprehensive baseball development system that has increased training efficiency and propelled Taoyuan's thriving baseball scene. At this year's World Series the team was united, composed and completely focused on winning with outstanding performances all around. Of our 6 national teams at the three LLB levels participating in World Series competition, 4 of our teams won championships.
Furthermore, this year our nation had 5 national teams competing at the three LLB levels in World Series tournaments and 2 national teams in the PONY League World Series. After the dust had settled, 4 of these national teams were crowned champions, truly phenomenal results. In the future, the Sports Administration will continue to provide guidance and assistance to the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA) in the training and development of national teams at the three LLB levels for participation in international competition. We will also encourage the public to continue showing support and rooting for our players participating at the three LLB levels. That way we are confident the Chinese Taipei national teams will continue our tradition of excellence.

中華青少棒代表隊勇奪2016年世界少棒聯盟世界次青少棒錦標賽冠軍
參加2016年世界少棒聯盟世界次青少棒錦標賽的中華青少棒代表隊，於臺北時間8月22日凌晨在美國密西根州泰勒市以9比1擊敗美西夏威夷隊，以全勝佳績取得冠軍，總統蔡英文於賽後隨即拍發賀電表達祝賀。
教育部體育署表示，總統對中華青少棒代表隊在參賽所展現精湛球技及團隊合作精神表示肯定，也勉勵青少棒國手們再接再厲，未來可以更加精進球技，朝個人參與棒球最高目標邁進，並代表國家參加更高層級棒球賽事。
中華青少棒代表隊是由桃園市新明國中代表我國參賽，於謝國城盃全國青少棒錦標賽獲得冠軍，取得代表我國參加世界少棒聯盟主辦之賽事參賽代表權，先在屏東主辦的亞太區擊敗勁敵中國隊勇奪冠軍，接著在世界錦標賽冠軍戰中在大勝美西夏威夷隊，連續4年奪得冠軍，完成衛冕任務，也是我國自2010年重返參加這項賽事後第5次奪冠，非常不容易。桃園市三級棒球隊近幾年在各項國內外比賽中都有優異表現，體育署自99年執行振興棒球運動總計畫及強棒計畫以來，連續7年投入資源協助桃園市政府辦理三級棒球培訓及參賽相關工作，其轄內三級學校棒球隊伍數為全國之冠，成棒隊伍實力堅強，且職棒Lamigo桃猿隊與桃園市政府合作，成功經營屬地主義，建構完善棒球發展體系，帶動桃園棒球蓬勃發展，才使培訓效益有所提升，這次參加世界錦標賽，全隊團結一心，展現奪冠企圖心，選手在比賽中臨危不亂，表現優異，奪得今年6支三級棒球國家代表隊參加世界錦標賽的第4個冠軍。
體育署表示，今年我國三級棒球共組訓5支國家隊參加世界少棒及美國小馬等2聯盟主辦賽事，共有4隊奪得世界冠軍，成績斐然，體育署未來仍將繼續輔導中華民國棒球協會組訓三級棒球國家隊參加國際賽事，也呼籲國人持續為我國三級棒球選手加油，相信中華小將定能再創佳績。

Cheer On Disabled Athletes Rio 2016 Paralympics Dreams
The Rio 2016 Paralympics took place from September 7th to 18th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Our nation had 13 athletes qualified for participation in these 6 events: powerlifting, judo, table tennis, athletics, swimming, and archery.
Mentally and physically disabled athletes’ participation in international competition "moves and amazes the world with spectacular sports accomplishments." In recent years, more and more countries are placing greater emphasis on this demographics participation in sports. At the last session, the London 2012 Paralympic Games, our nation won 1 silver and 2 bronze medals and we anticipated exceeding that mark at this session.
The Sports Administration commissioned the Chinese Taipei Paralympic Committee to form a Pre-Competition Inspection Team sending representatives to Rio de Janeiro to assess the venues, facilities, and transportation in order to ensure the best possible care and attention is provided for our athletes. Also, the athletics and table tennis teams were sent to China for offsite training, giving athletes the opportunity to practice taking care of themselves away from the comfort of their home environments and engage in intensive training.
Sports Administration Deputy Director-General Wang and Sports For All Division Director Lu made special visits to training sites in Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, and Changhua where athletes and coaches were training for judo, athletics, table tennis, archery, and powerlifting events. These representatives evaluated the training status, praised the athletes and coaches for all their hard work, and encouraged them to continue persevering. We hope that everyone would support and appreciate all the efforts these athletes have put into preparation and training. The Sports Administration invited President Tsai for the flag presentation ceremony on August 30. Later on that same day at 11:30 pm, our national delegation boarded an Emirates Airline plane to Rio de Janeiro for the competition. We anticipated that our national delegation would surpass the achievements set at the last session and return home in triumphant glory.

為身心障礙選手「2016年里約帕運會」圓夢加油
2016年里約帕拉林匹克運動會於105年9月7日至18日，在巴西里約盛大登場，我國有柔道、健力、桌球、田徑、輪椅網球及射箭，共計6個運動種類，取得13席參賽資格。
體育署表示，身心障礙參與國際競賽活動，係以「優異的運動成績，讓世界為之感動和震撼」，顯現其參與精神寓於運動，近年來已越來越受到各國政府的重視，上屆我國參加2012年倫敦帕運會榮獲1銀2銅的佳績，希望本屆能突破上屆成績。
體育署指出，為讓本屆參賽選手獲得良好的參賽照顧，體育署除委請殘總籌組賽前考察團，前往巴西里約實地瞭解比賽場地、交通等規劃，以利安排參賽選手的照護，此外田徑、桌球等隊亦前往中國大陸實施移地訓練，讓選手學習自我照顧與訓練。
為關心身障礙選手參加2016年里約帕運會訓練情形，體育署王副署長及全民運動組呂組長等人日前特別前往臺北、桃園、臺中及彰化等集訓地點，探視正在集訓之柔道、田徑、桌球、射箭及健力各隊選手及教練訓練情形，並給予鼓勵及慰勉選手與教練辛勞，也期望各界對身障選手訓練之辛苦與努力，能多給予關懷與鼓勵。體育署於8月30日恭請總統為代表團舉行授旗。代表團並於當日下午11:30搭乘阿聯酋班機飛往里約參加比賽，期待本屆代表團能超越上屆成績，凱旋榮歸。

“Play in Water, Not with Life”, Creative Summer Vacation Initiatives
According to monthly statistics from 2005 to 2015, the highest percentages of student drowning incidents occur during the months of July and August. Those two months together account for 40% of the drowning incidents. The reason, of course, is because of hot weather during summer vacation compounded by the fact students have lots of free time for fun in the sun and water. Thus, we urge parents to be mindful of where your children go for water fun and swimming, and even more importantly, strengthen students water safety concepts and skills. This empowers them with the capacity to protect themselves and their companions and even advocate water safety to other family members and friends.
This summer vacation, the Sports Administration has organized the “Play in Water, Not with Life” activity, which was divided into two parts, "Creative Summer Vacation Initiatives" and "Creative Advocacy", and also two age groups, elementary to junior high school and high school to university. This approach would have actualized the goal of giving all students nationwide the opportunity to participate in these three levels of challenges: 1) How to protect yourself when in the water, 2) How to remind companions to be aware of safety, and 3) How to advocate water safety to family members and friends.
Taiwan is an island nation surrounded by the sea bestowed with bountiful marine resources, an optimal environment for water-based sport and recreation activities. When students participate in these activities, they must understand the importance of choosing safe water environments with lifeguards, lifesaving equipment, and public access. The Sports Administration will continue assisting the central and local governments intensify patrolling of dangerous water sites and strengthening the public's water safety concepts. We will also continue working with county and city governments to establish a water safety network that focuses on dangerous water sites, providing effective advocacy and prevention measures and strengthening supervision. By implementing stricter controls, we hope to reduce the number of drowning incidents.
Life is priceless, so Play in Water, Not with Life. The Sports Administration once again reminds everyone to pay attention to water safety when you are swimming and having fun in the water all year round. Being mindful of safety is essential when participating in water activities: don't be brazen, don't behave dangerously, choose safe water environments, and memorize the 5 steps on drowning rescue and 10 tips on drowning prevention. This way we can all work together to reduce the number of drowning accidents.

玩水別玩命，創意暑假作業
根據94-104年學生溺水事件發生的月份統計表，7月和8月發生的比例最高，兩個月合計占整體的4成，原因當然就是暑假天氣熱，學生們也有很多的空閒時間相約去玩水；因此我們除了要呼籲學生家長，在暑假期間要多注意孩子們出遊的動向之外，更重要的是要加強學生自己的水域安全觀念，讓他們可以保護自己、保護同伴、甚至向親朋好友來宣傳水域安全。
教育部在今年暑假期間規劃「玩水別玩命」活動，分成「創意暑假作業」以及「創意宣傳」兩個部分，分別針對小學與國中生、高中與大專院校，讓全國學生們針對三個層次的任務目標來進行挑戰，分別是1.玩水時如何保護自身的安全。2.如何提醒同伴注意安全。3.如何向親朋好友來宣傳水域安全。
教育部表示，臺灣四面環海，擁有豐富的海洋資源，是發展各項水域運動的最佳優勢，但是希望學生在從事水域運動的時候，務必在有救生員、救生設備或安全開放的水域戲水，教育部體育署持續協同中央與地方，加強危險水域巡查及強化民眾水域安全觀念，並將與縣市政府建立水域安全網絡，針對危險區域，進行有效的宣導及防制措施，加強督導，除了希望藉由嚴格的控管，有效降低溺水事件的發生。
生命無價，玩水別玩命，教育部體育署再次呼籲，游泳戲水不分季、水域安全需注意，從事水域運動時務必注意自身安全，不逞強、不做危險動作，選擇安全的水域，並牢記救溺5步、防溺10招，方能降低溺水意外發生。

IKF President praises development of korfball in Taiwan during visit
International Korfball Federation (IKF) President Jan Fransoo has paid tribute to the progress the sport has made in Taiwan on a trip to the country on August 24th. Fransoo was joined by IKF Asia President Ying-Che Huang and Chinese Taipei Korfball Association (CTKA) secretary general Chien-Ting Chen on his visit. He commended Taiwan’s deputy sports minister on the work our country have done to boost korfball. It has been reflected in our rising to second place on the IKF world rankings earlier this month, with only world champions The Netherlands now ahead of us. Our rise came after our national korfball delegation won the silver medal at the IKF Under-23 World Korfball Championship, losing 24-16 to the Dutch team in the gold medal match. We have replaced Belgium in second place, with the European nation dropping to fourth position, behind England, in the latest rankings.
Fransoo offered praise to the present and previous leadership of the CTKA for their continued support of IKF Asia. The IKF President also held discussions with officials on the possibility of Taiwan staging competitions in the future.
The Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation also met with the IKF delegation during their visit, with discussions held over our proposed participation in the inaugural International University Sport Federation (FISU) World University Korfball Championship in Portugal. The first edition of the event is scheduled to take place in 2018, with the second earmarked for 2020.

國際合球總會會長訪台期間讚揚合球在台灣的發展
國際合球總會會長Jan Fransoo拜訪台灣期間，對合球運動在台灣的發展表示讚許。Fransoo訪台期間由國際合球總會亞洲區會長黃英哲博士及中華民國合球協會陳建廷秘書長負責招待。Fransoo稱讚台灣體育為促進國內合球發展所做的貢獻。而這一切的努力在上個月最新公布的IKF國際合球排名中得到回報，我國排名已晉升到世界第二，僅次於世界冠軍荷蘭隊。我國合球代表隊在IKF世界合球錦標賽的23個參賽國中，以24比16輸給了奪冠的荷蘭隊，獲得銀牌，並因此取代了比利時在世界排名第二的位子；最新排名中，比利時在歐洲各國球隊中名次滑落到第四位，緊接在英國隊之後。
Fransoo對中華民國合球協會一直以來對國際合球總會亞洲區所做的努力與貢獻給予高度肯定。Fransoo此行也與台灣官方代表針對未來在台灣舉辦合球比賽的發展性與可能性進行討論。
國際合球總會代表團此次訪台期間也會晤中華民國大專院校體育總會代表， 針對我國參加國際大學運動總會在葡萄牙舉行的首屆世界大學合球錦標賽的申請進行討論。首屆賽事擬定在2018年舉行，第二屆則預定在2020年。
