Taiwan's Top 10 Bike Paths Selections Officially Launched!
The Sports Administration has organized the Taiwan Top 10 Bike Paths Selections in efforts to promote the development of cycling green tourism and healthy leisure activities. This event is aimed at spurring local mobilization and public participation in the process of selecting Taiwan's best bike paths and also inviting people from both Taiwan and abroad to enjoy the beautiful journey along Taiwan's bike paths together.
This selection activity officially opens for submissions on 15th June. Local governments and scenic area administration offices first submit recommendations that include details about the select bike paths within their jurisdiction. In addition to highlighting unique local characteristics, such features as Taiwan's indigenous culture, sports, recreation, food, family activities, ecology, scenic spots, and integration of dedicated bike lanes into bicycle tourism routes are included. Director-general Jow-fei Ho explains that the objective of the Top 10 Bike Path Selections is to ride the achievements of bike paths and peripheral development, encouraging everyone to enjoy the beauty of Taiwan while cycling and connecting bike paths to public transportation for even longer, extended journeys. Taiwan is renowned worldwide for its spectacular scenery, and riding at a leisurely pace of just 15km per hour, cyclists can really enjoy the sights close-up. Cycling is a great way to improve people's physical fitness and health and offers great potential for attracting more visitors from abroad to tour Taiwan on bicycle along with us.

Adding Value to Sport for All "Sport & Health iCloud" Value-Added Applications Research Center Officially Operational
The Sports Administration has established the Sports and Health iCloud Value-Added Applications Research Center, which is the nation's first research center to archive, manage, and analyze big data related to sports, physical activity, and health of the nation's people.
The purpose for establishing the Value-Added Applications Research Center is to reprocess the massive amounts of data accumulated by the government through new, innovative and creative approaches. We anticipate these research results will promote optimization of government policy implementation and strengthen the research foundations for which more "substantive and inductive" sports policies are formulated.
Once the Center has been established it will conduct analysis and research of sports, physical activity, and health data providing more sophisticated nationwide models. The center is a not-for-profit organization and all of the research data provided will comply with the Personal Data Protection Act to ensure individual's personal information is not compromised. In the future, the Center will apply its Sports City Surveys, national physical fitness, and student physical fitness databanks into academic research and governmental policy planning. We hope people from all fields and disciplines will take advantage of this Center.

Summer Camp Activities Allow Students to Enjoy Diverse Sports
As summer vacation approaches, the Sports Administration encourages students to get out and enjoy the great outdoors and embrace the natural environment through participation in a variety of edutainment camps. This year National Taiwan Sport University's master plan will continue being executed, combining activities that utilize the unique local characteristics of schools throughout the north, central, south, and east regions of Taiwan. The most popular camp activities from years' past will make up a lineup of over 15 activities that includes hiking, rock climbing, outdoor adventures, water activities (kayaking, windsurfing, and river tracing), archery, paintball, cycling, fitness champ (obstacle courses), inline skating, physical fitness (testing), sport stacking, and orienteering. This year there will be a total of 72 groups with an estimated 4,800 students participating, giving school-aged youth the opportunity to participate in sports not taught in their school physical education curriculum and the chance to cultivate a passion for a diversity of sports and recreational activities.
Director-general Jow-fei Ho said that sports is no longer misperceived as an activity for those with "simple minds and muscular bodies." In fact, it's quite the opposite: We now know that sports and physical activity makes you smart and relieves stress! Research studies have revealed that developing exercise habits at a young age will have a positive impact on learning, emotional well-being, and interpersonal relationships. Considering that "the strength of a nation depends on the strength of its people," our hope is that each student has the opportunity to participate in sports and physical activities. Participation will improve emotional well-being and learning aptitude and also have a positive impact on promoting overall personal development.

2015 Olympic Day Run

Run for Olympic Glory as an Olympian for a Day!

The 28th Olympic Day Run was held on 6th June and started at the New Taipei City Hall Citizen Plaza. The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee (CTOC) organized this event in collaboration with the Sports Office, New Taipei City Government and the sponsorship of Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. Committed to advancing the Olympic spirit set forth by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and promoting Sport for All, the CTOC began holding this Run back in 1998 and this year marks the 28th consecutive session. The Sports Administration anticipates this event will help the sport of road running gain greater popularity and encourage more people to participate in sports, while also heralding the Olympic spirit of fair play and friendship, deeply engraining Olympic ideals into peoples' hearts.
This year's Olympic Day Run carried on the "Olympic rings run" tradition from last year's event as the CTOC offered commemorative T-shirts in the five colors of the Olmpic rings—blue, yellow, black, green, and red. Wearing the colors of the Olympic rings linked the energy of sports with the colorful vitality of life, making each runner "an Olympian for a day."

Asian Championships Return to Formosa as Chinese Taipei Triathletes Eye Rio
Back in 2011 our nation held the 2011 ASTC Triathlon Asian Championships at Ilan County's renowned scenic spot Meihua (Plum Blossom) Lake. Now, four years later, Asia's highest level competition has returned to Formosa—the beautiful island of Taiwan. The 2015 New Taipei ASTC Triathlon Asian Championships took place from the 12th-14th of June in New Taipei City.
Results of this year's Asian Championships will be counted as qualification points for the 2016 Rio Olympics and thus attracted elite triathletes from nations throughout Asia to come compete in New Taipei City.
Taiwan's population of 23 million ranks around 50th worldwide, but according to data for last year (2014) published by the International Triathlon Union (ITU), the number of triathletes in our nation ranks 13th internationally and 3rd in Asia behind Japan and South Korea. The Sports Administration anticipates that our nation's young triathletes will one day stand tall on the international podium, winning medals and glory for our nation.
